Angharad Lyddon
Mezzo-soprano
Angharad Lyddon mezzo-soprano (Sotopenre) is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, having studied with Janice Chapman, Audrey Hyland and Glenville Hargreaves on the college’s Advanced Diploma in Opera, BMus and MA courses. She continues to study with Janice Chapman.
Previously for ENO: Sotopenre Akhnaten, Kate The Pirates of Penzance; understudied Hermia A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Perdita The Winter’s Tale, Schoolboy/Dresser/Waiter Lulu.
Career Highlights
Roles at the RAO: Lucretia The Rape of Lucretia, Baba the Turk, Zita Gianni Schicchi, Filipyevna Eugene Onegin, Madame de la Haltière Cendrillon, Polinesso Ariodante.
Other roles include: Hansel Gingerbread (Iford Arts’ 2018 Education Project); Suzuki (Salon Opera); Julia Bertram Mansfield Park (Grange Festival); Cherubino (Clonter Opera); Olga Eugene Onegin (Opra Cymru). She created the role of Panthea in Luke Styles’s Wakening Shadow (Jerwood Young Artist at Glyndebourne), and she has understudied roles such as Polinesso and Alto in Trauernacht, a staging of Bach Cantatas (Aix-en-Provence). She is a Samling Artist and among her concert highlights are performances at Wigmore Hall, Stravinsky’s The Faun and the Shepherdess and Requiem Canticles (LPO/Jurowski), Bach Cantatas (Gardiner) and Christmas Oratorio (Kristiansand, Norway). Her awards include semi finalist at the Wigmore Hall International Song Competition and 2nd prize at the International Voice of the Future, Llangollen International Eisteddfod. She will represent Wales at the 2019 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition following her success at the 2018 Welsh Singer Showcase at St David’s Hall, with BBCNOW conducted by Gareth Jones.
