Ligeti’s La Grande Macabre, in 2009.

Best ENO moment?
Playing Act III of The Valkyrie at Glastonbury in 2004 was my best ENO moment, though opening the Millennium Dome on New Year’s Eve 1999 was a true honour.

How did you start?
I seemed to be better suited to hitting things rather than playing tunes on the violin.

Passion outside of opera?
Somerset County Cricket Club and playing cricket.
