ENO launches 'Doorstep Opera'
27th May 2020 in News
ENO has launched Doorstep Opera, encouraging everyone to bring live music to their neighbourhoods from a safe distance by performing ‘Va’, pensiero’ (Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves) from Verdi’s Nabucco outside their homes at 7pm every Sunday.
With access to live music in short supply at the moment, we’re encouraging everyone, no matter your musical ability, to help spread opera to doorsteps across the country, busting lockdown monotony and entertaining your neighbours at 7pm on Sundays.
Whether you sing or play an instrument, we’ve put together a pack to help you get started. There’s the score, a backing track recorded by the award-winning ENO orchestra, the single vocal line, lyrics, and videos of ENO chorus members Fiona, Anton and violinist Jacqui to show you how it’s done (below).
Ask one of your household to film your performance at 7pm on Sunday and then post it to social media using #DoorstepOpera or email your MP4 videos to Digital Communications Manager Karen McCabe kmccabe@eno.org to be shared on ENO’s social media on Sunday or the following Sunday to help spread the power of opera.
