Our incredible costume department, led by Sarah Bowern MBE, have a new home.
Join us for a tour of this outstanding new creative space where our costume team will be busily planning and working on the 2023/24 season designs. You may even catch a sneak glimpse at what our upcoming productions shall look like long before the audience.
If you have ever fancied yourself as a budding tailor or dressmaker then after the tour, you will have the opportunity to gain some ‘hands-on’ experience of costume making techniques and find out that skills that go into making the Beefeater hats from The Yeomen of the Guard, outfits fit for a god in The Rhinegold, or wings angelic enough to grace It’s a Wonderful Life.
The costume team at ENO are responsible for bring each designer’s concept to life, from the initial sketches to the final striking and beautiful outfits that you see at the London Coliseum. Come along and have a glass of wine and a chat with Sarah’s amazing team about how the process works from seeing the first designs through to fittings, stitching, altering and making sure our singers are resplendent when they take to the stage.

Our new workshop is conveniently located near Blackfriars Bridge, moments round the corner from Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe.
The nearest stations are Southwark, Blackfriars and Waterloo East.
Local bus routes include 40, 63 and 381.
Please note some areas of the workshop have steps and uneven surfaces.
