Leo McFall

Leo McFall was the winner of the Deutsche Dirigentenpreis 2015 and a finalist in the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award 2014, he has worked as Bernard Haitink’s assistant in many projects. Recently he helped form the Alma Mahler Kammerorchester, a young ensemble made up of some of Europe’s finest young musicians.

Career Highlights

In opera, the Glyndebourne Festival and Glyndebourne on Tour have played a substantial role in his career,  having led performances of Turn of the Screw, Così fan tutte, Rusalka, Carmen, The Yellow Sofa, Mavra and Renard . He has also worked at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Opera North, Volksoper Wien, Canadian Opera Company and Opéra de Lyon. After studies at Oxford University and the Sibelius Academy, he was Kapellmeister at the Meiningen State Theatre and Assistant conductor of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester.

His appearances as a guest conductor in recent seasons include concerts with such orchestras as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Dresden Philharmonic, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Royal Scottish National and the RTVE Symphony Madrid. This is his ENO debut.
