He directed and designed concert stagings of Der Ring des Nibelungen (Opera North), Otello (Bergen National Opera) and Fidelio (Orchestre de Chambre de Paris).

Awards include: Oliviers for Outstanding Achievement in Dance (1995), Best Lighting Design (2005); The South Bank Sky Arts Opera Award (The Ring Cycle (Opera North), 2017); and the Helpmann and Green Room Awards for Best Lighting (King Kong, 2013); also Double Tony nominee (2019) – Best Lighting Design for The Ferryman and King Kong.
