Richard Jones was born in London, and has directed operas at the ROH, ENO, WNO, Glyndebourne, Opera North, Scottish Opera, Brussels, Bregenz, Berlin, Amsterdam, Munich, Paris, New York’s Met and La Scala, Milan.
Previously for ENO: Rodelinda, Love for Three Oranges, Die Fledermaus, Pelléas and Mélisande, From Morning to Midnight, Lulu, The Trojans, The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant, Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci, Tales of Hoffmann, Julietta, Rodelinda, The Girl of the Golden West, The Mastersingers of Nuremberg, Don Giovanni.

Richard has also directed theatre in the West End and at the Old Vic, Young Vic, RNT, Royal Court, RSC, three times on Broadway and for various New York theatres.
Awards for opera include: Olivier Awards for Hansel and Gretel (WNO), The Trojans (ENO), Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (ROH); South Bank Show Award for Meistersinger (WNO) and Evening Standard Award (ENO); Evening Standard Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement in Opera for Der Ring des Nibelungen (ROH); TMA Awards for Wozzeck, Queen of Spades (WNO); Opernwelt production of the Year for Giulio Cesare (Munich).
Theatre awards include: Olivier Awards for Too Clever by Half (Old Vic), Into the Woods (West End); Evening Standard Award for Best Director for The Illusion (Old Vic).
Recent work includes: Anna Nicole (B.A.M., New York); Der Rosenkavalier (Glyndebourne and Tokyo); Ariodante (Aix, DNO); La bohème (ROH); The Hairy Ape (Old Vic and New York); Once in a Lifetime, The Trial (Young Vic). He was appointed a CBE in the 2015 New Year’s Honours List.
